Biden admin's proposed TikTok deal would allow US spying on users

A draft of a proposed deal between Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok and the Biden administration would give the government the ability to look at the platform's servers at any time without notice -- and could potentially allow the administration to spy on American users, according to Forbes.

The deal would let TikTok avoid a ban in the U.S., which has been discussed since former President Donald Trump was in office.

It amounts to lots of oversight, the ability to block changes to the U.S. version of the app and terms of service, and even veto power over some TikTok hires.

That's all well and good, but the ability to spy on Americans is something conservatives have wanted to prevent the platform from doing, whether it's Chinese or Americans doing it.

The agreement also requires some decision-making independent of parent company ByteDance and in secrecy from that entity.

Does Biden really think we're that dumb, or is he that desperate to spy on Americans? Probably both at this point.
