Yellowstone star Kevin Costner announced that he is working on a new film series titled, Horizon: An American Saga, on which Costner has reportedly spent $20 million in out-of-pocket expenses.
The upcoming four-part epic will cover a pivotal period in American history exploring the expansion of the American West.
The series is slated for a June 28, 2024, release, and the second part will follow two months later with an Aug. 16, 2024, release.
Costner's personal investment in the project wasn't known until court documents from his divorce revealed that the star had essentially been funding the series on his own.
According to documents from the divorce, "Kevin's total compensation for acting, producing, and directing in Horizon 1 is approximately $12,000,000, and for Horizon 2 is approximately $12,000,000, most of which he voluntarily deferred."
Costner himself stated, "I’ve mortgaged 10 acres on the water in Santa Barbara where I was going to build my last house. But I did it without a thought. It has thrown my accountant into a f---ing conniption fit. But it’s my life, and I believe in the idea and the story."
