WI Supreme Court denies challenge to Jill Stein's appearance on ballot
The Wisconsin Supreme Court has declined to rule on a challenge to Green Party presidential candidate Jill Biden appearing on statewide ballots, clearing the way for her to do so.
Democrats fearful that Stein would take votes away from Vice President Kamala Harris were trying to keep her off the ballot, claiming that the Green Party lacks statewide office holders or legislative candidates authorized to nominate presidential electors.
“We determine that the petitioner is not entitled to the relief he seeks,” the court said in an unsigned order with no explanation, the Associated Press reported.
Stein said the ruling was a “big win against the anti-Democratic Party’s war on democracy and voter choice!”
Wisconsin is a pivotal swing state in the election--one that helped former President Donald Trump get elected in 2016 and President Joe Biden get elected in 2020.
When Biden won in 2020, it was by about 21,000 votes. Stein received 31,000 votes in the state that year.
