White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and deputy press secretary Andrew Bates violated the Hatch Act

The Office of Special Counsel found that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and deputy press secretary Andrew Bates had repeatedly and knowingly violated the Hatch Act by their frequent use of the term "MAGA."

The Hatch Act of 1939 exists to "ensure that federal programs are administered in a nonpartisan fashion." Both Jean-Pierre and Bates have made political attacks in their official duties working for the White House.

Jean-Pierre was already reprimanded by the OSC in June after the watchdog made it clear to her that her use of the term "mega MAGA Republicans” was not appropriate for a White House official.

The only individuals who are exempt from the Hatch Act are the vice president and the president himself.

A spokesperson for the White House told NBC News, "We take the law seriously and uphold the Hatch Act," but that doesn't seem to be completely truthful as partisan rhetoric has become extremely common in the past year.

It's worth wondering how many more blatant violations it will take before something is actually done to enforce the Hatch Act beyond letters of reprimand.
