Walz says he 'misspeaks' but that Trump is 'pathological liar'

Democrat vice presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said during a 60 Minutes interview aired on Monday that when he says something untrue, it is a "misstatement," but when Republican nominee former President Donald Trump does the same thing, he's a "pathological liar."

Walz was called on the carpet for previously saying that he was present at the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 when timelines show he was not actually there. He also lied about his military service, claiming to have been in combat when he abruptly left the military right before his unit deployed to Iraq.

“I think folks know who I am,” Walz said in response. “And I think they know the difference between someone expressing emotion, telling a story, getting a date wrong by–you–rather than a pathological liar like Donald Trump.”

To his credit, correspondent Bill Whitaker followed up by saying, “But I think it comes down to the question of whether—whether you can be trusted to tell the truth."

“Yeah. Well– I can– I think I can,” Walz said. “I will own up to being a knucklehead at times, but the folks closest to me know that I keep my word.”

Voters, please take note: Walz does not think he should be accountable for any of his lies, even though he wants to malign other people like Trump for the same kind of alleged behavior.
