Harris loses to Trump in Walz's home county
The state of Minnesota's electoral votes went to Vice President Kamala Harris and the state's governor, Tim Walz (D), but Walz failed to carry his home county, where he lived for 20 years.
Blue Earth County went to president-elect Donald Trump with 49.6% of the vote, while Harris received 48.3%.
Walz tried to position himself as a regular guy, a military veteran, teacher and football coach whose students encouraged him to run for elected office years ago.
"I wound up teaching social studies and coaching football at Mankato West High School,” Walz said during his speech at the Democratic National Convention. “It was those players and my students that inspired me to run for Congress.”
One of the major problems Walz had over the course of the campaign is that he was repeatedly caught lying about his past.
For example. Walz claimed he served in an active war zone while in the National Guard, but instead he hastily left the military before his unit was deployed to the Middle East.
