USAID website goes dark as Trump administration begins hiring freeze, overhaul of federal government
Amid President Donald Trump's hiring freeze and upcoming overhaul of many government programs, USAID's website went down over the weekend.
USAID has perhaps been targeted the most by Trump's overhaul policies, as there are plans to significantly cut back foreign aid.
American taxpayers foot the bill for billions in foreign aid every year, and Trump made it a key promise in his election campaign to curtail foreign aid after decades of taxpayers being fleeced to subsidize foreign countries.
USAID itself is an independent organization, but Trump may want to absorb it into the
State Department in order to better control it and streamline procedures for auditing purposes.
As USAID was created by an executive order from President John F. Kennedy, Trump has all the power needed to dissolve or absorb it. Elon Musk referenced this in a tweet saying, "Live by executive order, die by executive order."
Nothing is official yet, but the site going down over the weekend further indicates that Trump is going to cut the leak at the source and end the robbery of American taxpayers.
