US seizes Venezuelan president's equivalent to Air Force One
According to Newsweek, America's government has seized seized Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's plane.
A Homeland Security Investigations-led investigation discovered the plane in the Dominican Republic.
The plane was then seized by the United States and flown to Florida on Sept. 2.
It's being reported that Maduro was NOT on board the plane.
Attorney General Merrick Garland released a statement explaining the situation:
This morning, the Justice Department seized an aircraft we allege was illegally purchased for $13 million through a shell company and smuggled out of the United States for use by Nicolás Maduro and his cronies. The Department will continue to pursue those who violate our sanctions and export controls to prevent them from using American resources to undermine the national security of the United States.
Special Agent in Charge Anthony Salisbury of Homeland Security Investigations Miami also gave his opinion, saying, "the seizure of this aircraft is another significant action by Homeland Security Investigations working with our domestic and international partners against the illegal activities of the Maduro regime."
