U.S. Army Removes Jonathan Majors From Ads After Arrest

March 31, 2023

The United States Army fell well short of its recruiting goal in 2022. As a result, it really ramped up the marketing in 2023.

One of its planned publicity stunts was to air a series of commercials during the wildly popular NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four on April Fool's weekend.

They were going to feature actor Jonathan Majors, who's currently riding a hot streak of films that include Creed III and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

However, after Majors was recently arrested in New York for allegedly assaulting a woman, the U.S. Army has been forced to quickly change its plans.

Despite Majors' lawyer claiming that the actor is "completely innocent," allegations were all the Army needed to know that people were not about to receive the commercials well.

"The U.S. Army is aware of the arrest of Jonathan Majors and we are deeply concerned by the allegations surrounding his arrest," Laura DeFrancisco, the public affairs chief for the Army Enterprise Marketing Office, said. "While Mr. Majors is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete."
