Tulsi Gabbard nomination clears Senate Intel Committee
Tulsi Gabbard, nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as Director of National Intelligence, will get a vote by the full Senate after narrowly clearing its Intelligence Committee.
Sen. Todd Young (R-IN), who had been skeptical of Gabbard's refusal to call leaker Edward Snowden a traitor, said ahead of Tuesday's committee vote that he would support the former congresswoman's nomination after she made assurances to him in a letter about her position.
In the letter, which Young released publicly, Gabard commits to “holding accountable and seeking justice against any Intelligence Community employee, contractor, or subcontractor who is suspected of making or facilitating an unauthorized disclosure of any intelligence program.”
She also said she would not make a recommendation in “a personal or professional capacity regarding the legal standing of Edward Snowden to the President of the United States or the Attorney General of the United States.
None of Trump's nominees has so far failed to be confirmed.
Matt Gaetz did withdraw from consideration to become attorney general after it was revealed that he didn't have the votes to be confirmed.
