Trump's lawyers move to vacate NY trial verdict
In the wake of the Supreme Court decision that offered former President Donald Trump some level of presidential immunity, the former president's legal team is already making moves.
According to The Epoch Times, Trump and his lawyers moved to vacate the guilty verdict from earlier this year that resulted in 34 felony counts against him.
His lawyers argued "evidence of official acts were presented before a grand jury and then at trial, and therefore the guilty verdict returned in May must be vacated and the indictment dismissed," the outlet reported
"Your Honor now has the authority to address these injustices, and the Court is duty-bound to do so in light of the Supreme Court’s decision,” Trump's lawyers wrote.
The Epoch Times noted:
New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan had rejected a last minute presidential immunity motion from the defense, finding they could raise objections throughout the trial and the judge could then block evidence from being shown to the jury this way.
“DANY urged this Court to front-run the Supreme Court on a federal constitutional issue with grave implications for the operation of the federal government and the relationships between state and federal officials,” the defense motion reads. “The record is clear: DANY was wrong, very wrong.”
The move from Trump's legal team comes as the judge in the case agreed to delay the sentencing hearing, which would have been this week, to September as the immunity decision plays out.
The sentencing hearing was moved out and it was noted it was moved out to determine if it would still be "necessary."

The immunity question was raised in a separate case involving the classified documents probe, but given the Supreme Court's decision on immunity overall, it could spill into his other cases, such as the New York case.
With President Joe Biden's political future in disarray after his disastrous debate performance with Trump, the immunity decision could have a monumental effect on Trump's campaign.
So far, he and his lawyers have managed to have multiple trials delayed until likely after the November election, giving Trump the possibility, if he wins, to pardon himself or otherwise have his AG quash the charges.
Many believe Vice President Kamala Harris could be gearing up to take over the ticket.
Only time will tell how it all shakes out.
