Trump warns SCOTUS that presidents should have immunity or risk dangerous precedent

 April 22, 2024

Former President Donald Trump's legal defense team will try its very best this week to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court that their client should be entitled to a presidential immunity defense in the cases he faces.

According to The Hill, SCOTUS will hear arguments this week regarding Trump's immunity claim.

Ahead of the high court tackling the issue, Trump issued a dire warning in a recent Truth Social post regarding the critical implications of the immunity decision, noting that without it, future presidents will immediately be indicted by the opposing party following their term in the White House.

In other words, Trump said if the Supreme Court doesn't agree that he has immunity, a dangerous precedent will immediately be set.

"IF IMMUNITY IS NOT GRANTED TO A PRESIDENT, EVERY PRESIDENT THAT LEAVES OFFICE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY INDICTED BY THE OPPOSING PARTY," Trump posted Saturday morning on his Truth Social account.

He added, "WITHOUT COMPLETE IMMUNITY, A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY FUNCTION!"

"A President has to be free to determine what is right for our Country without undue pressure. If there is no Immunity, the Presidency, as we know it, will “no longer exist.” Many actions for the benefit of our Country will not be taken."

Trump went on to insist that the Founders of America would agree that he should enjoy immunity.

"This is in no way what the Founders had in mind. Legal Experts and Scholars have stated that the President must have Full Presidential Immunity. A President must be free to make proper decisions. His mind must be clear, and he must not be guided by the fear of retribution!" Trump continued.

Unfortunately -- and unfairly, according to many -- Trump will not be allowed to sit for the Supreme Court immunity arguments because of his ongoing trial in New York.

The judge in that trial blocked Trump from being able to attend, which sparked controversy and anger among Trump's circle and base of supporters.

Trump is currently at trial in New York City as a result of DA Alvin Bragg's hush money charges. Jury selection began last week and is expected to conclude soon.

The Supreme Court's decision on Trump's immunity will have a massive impact, one way or another, on Trump's legal future.
