Politico reported Sunday that former President Donald Trump's search for his 2024 running mate has begun intensifying and that top advisor Susie Wiles is leading the effort to vet more than a dozen candidates to narrow down the list.

The campaign has hired an outside firm to vet the candidates and do documented research on them.

Family members who may be involved in the process include Melania Trump and Donald Trump, Jr., who has said he wants a "fighter" in the role.

Trump has said he doesn't think his VP matters much, but he has also asked Mar-A-Lago guests what they think and teased possible names in interviews.

An anonymous Trump campaign source said the decision will likely take months and that Trump is not in a hurry.

“He’s going to draw this out ‘Apprentice’-style,” the source said.
