Trump victory likely to impact Supreme Court, pollster says

Republican pollster Frank Luntz said Tuesday night that a victory for former President Donald Trump would almost certainly impact the Supreme Court because "one or two justices" are likely to retire in the next few years.

Trump did win the presidential race in the early hours of Wednesday after Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were called in his favor, and he crossed the 270 electoral vote threshold.

Luntz also noted that Republican control of the Senate would give Trump an easy time appointing whomever he wanted to the high court.

With several Senate races still to be called, Republicans already have 52 senators, a larger majority than President Joe Biden currently enjoys.

It was expected that Republicans would take over the Senate majority, though the House majority is still up in the air at the time of writing with a number of uncalled races still outstanding.

“If he has the Senate, it becomes easier for him to put forward his economic policies and some of it doesn’t even require a vote of Congress, but if you’re looking for that, that tariff policy is more likely than not to come into play,” Luntz said.
