Trump speculates he was shot because his opposition called him a 'threat to democracy'
Former President Donald Trump speculated on a radio show on Tuesday that he might have been shot because President Joe Biden and other Democrats called him a "threat to democracy" while campaigning.
“They say I’m not democratic, I’m not democratic. I’m a threat to democracy. It’s just a sound bite, it means nothing to them to say it,” Trump said on the Sid & Friends in the Morning radio show.
“Maybe it’s the reason I was shot. Who knows? Rhetorically, it’s a terrible thing to say about somebody like me, but they say it all the time,” he added.
The FBI has been unable to discover a motive for the shooting, which occurred at a Pennsylvania campaign rally.
The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, somehow evaded law enforcement and shot at Trump from a rooftop less than 200 yards away.
The shooting killed rallygoer Corey Comperatore and seriously wounded two others.
