Trump says he may not participate in debates

In a move that almost no one will care about except political writers and TV networks that depend on ratings, former President Donald Trump said he may not participate in televised (or any) debates as part of his campaign for president in 2024.

Trump pointed out on Truth Social that no one had asked him whether he would participate in debates before they started announcing them.

“When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the ‘questions,’ why subject yourself to being libeled and abused?” he questioned.

“Also," he noted, "the Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post. NO!”

Trump skipped two debates in 2016. The first one saw a significant ratings decline, and the second one was subsequently canceled before it was held when other candidates dropped out after Trump did.

The former president has a good point, though, since even GOP debates have been skewed in a partisan fashion in the past, and he knows that almost all media figures want to see him crash and burn, even many on Fox News.
