Former President Donald Trump said he would "handle" Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) if he decides to challenge him for president in 2024.

On The Water Pooler podcast with host David Brody, Trump claimed credit for DeSantis's popularity while acknowledging that his popularity now threatens to eclipse Trump's own.

"I got him elected, pure and simple," Trump said of DeSantis's narrow gubernatorial victory in 2018. "So, now I hear he might want to run against me, so we'll handle that the way I handle things."

Until now, Trump has "handled" calls for DeSantis to run against him by attacking the governor, calling him "Ron DeSanctimonious" and saying he is disloyal to Trump by not saying he will refuse to run in 2024.

Trump's probably going to have to up his game to keep DeSantis from getting even more popular as time goes on.

Some polls already show DeSantis more popular than Trump, which is not likely to change if he does decide to run.
