Trump responds to viral video of talking, laughing with Obama at Carter Funeral

 January 11, 2025

One of the biggest headlines to come out of the funeral ceremony for the late former President Jimmy Carter is the moments shared between President Barack Obama and President-elect Donald Trump.

The two presidents went viral after video footage captured them sitting next to one another and chatting it up. Obama was seen chuckling and smiling as Trump spoke with him at the ceremony.

According to reports, speaking with reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump broke his silence on the friendly-looking chat at Carter's funeral.

"I didn't realize how friendly it looked. I said, 'boy, they look like two people that like each other'. And we probably do," Trump told reporters.

"We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don't know," Trump said, adding, "We just got along. But I got along with just about everybody.

It was noted that Obama didn't shake hands with Trump or his wife, incoming first lady Melania Trump. Obama reportedly shook hands with the other living presidents in attendance, however.

Not surprisingly, virtually the entire internet wanted to know what Trump said to Obama and what was said back that had the two presidents laughing and smiling like old pals. According to the New York Post, a forensic lip reader reportedly nailed the conversation down.

The Post noted:

Trump, 78, possibly wary of cameras facing the pair as they sat shoulder to shoulder, cautioned Obama, 63, that they would have to “find a quiet place” later in the day to discuss a “matter of importance,” according to forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman.

The context behind the alleged conversation was unclear, but it was noted that it might have to do with international agreements.

The Post added:

At one point, Trump leaned toward Obama and said, “I’ve pulled out of that. It’s the conditions. Can you imagine that?"

Obama laughed as Trump added, “and after, I will,” before the pooled TV camera feed cut away from the men, who were bracketed by former first lady Laura Bush and Trump’s wife Melania.

No matter the context of the conversation, it was noteworthy given that the two presidents have not exactly been friendly toward one another for the entirety of their political careers.

The conversation also sparked a number of conspiracy theories across social media.

Spokespeople for Obama and Trump reportedly did not return comment when asked for additional details regarding the conversation.
