Trump Reaffirms Support For McCarthy

On Wednesday, Jan. 4, Donald Trump took to Truth Social and offered a strong endorsement of Kevin McCarthy for the Speakership.

Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA, THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE “HOUSE” TWICE!

The message from Trump comes one day after NBC News senior Capitol Hill correspondent Garrett Haake reported that he had asked Donald Trump directly whether Trump still supported McCarthy and received no answer. Apparently, Trump didn't want to announce his support McCarthy until McCarthy had won.

Trump had supported Kevin back in December when McCarthy's chances looked a little more assured.

When I asked directly if he was sticking by McCarthy, who did not clinch the gavel today after three floor votes, Mr. Trump told me "we'll see what happens," and ended our conversation.
