Trump picks up seventh congressional endorsement from Florida

April 20, 2023

Rather than endorsing the state's governor, Ron DeSantis (R), as the 2024 GOP presidential candidate they want to see on the general ticket, more and more Floridian lawmakers are choosing to endorse former President Donald Trump, a Florida resident and the current frontrunner in the race -- the latest being Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) on Wednesday.

Buchanan is the seventh congress member from Florida to endorse Trump after several did so over the weekend.

To be fair, DeSantis hasn't yet jumped into the presidential race like people think he will in the next month or two, so maybe Floridians aren't seeing him as a viable option.

But his likely candidacy is well-known, so those who want to support him could have waited for him to announce instead of jumping on the Trump bandwagon now.

The support for Trump is not that surprising given that nearly all polls show him double digits ahead of DeSantis with Republicans.

But if DeSantis can't even garner support in his own state, he probably doesn't have much of a chance of gaining significant traction at this point, no matter what he does.
