Trump avoiding mention of Jan. 6 in some speeches

Former President Donald Trump seems to be moderating his message as a way to reach more Americans and gain voters.

The latest evidence of his moderating message is that he has stopped mentioning Jan. 6 in some of his speeches, including his speech at the RNC convention and a recent rally in Michigan.

Trump had previously called people who had been arrested for unlawfully entering the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021 "hostages" and "patriots," and he had said he would pardon them if elected.

He had also started his rallies with the national anthem sung by the "J6 Prison Choir," made up of inmates imprisoned for their involvement in the rally gone amok, but the Michigan rally used a traditional version of the song.

Trump is saying that Democrats can only win in November if they "cheat," which is a reference to the 2020 election being illegitimate.

But overall, Trump has gone a more moderate route, even going so far as to say at the Michigan rally that the press who initially reported that he merely "ducked" when he heard a loud noise even though he had been shot were "fair" in their coverage.
