Trump taps Terry Cole to lead Drug Enforcement Administration

In December, Donald Trump rescinded his pick to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration, sheriff Chad Chronister of his home state of Florida.

After backlash, Chronister said he withdrew the nomination himself, citing dedication to his constituents in Hillsborough County, but Trump had a different story.

"He didn’t pull out. I pulled him out because I did not like what he said to my pastors and other supporters," Trump clarified.

On Feb. 11, Trump announced that he had made a new pick to head the Drug Enforcement Administration.

"I am pleased to announce that Terry Cole will be the next Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator," Trump said.

If confirmed by the Senate, Cole would replace acting DEA Administrator Derek S. Maltz, who took over on the day that Trump became president.

Cole worked at the DEA for 21 years, a tenure that included tours of Colombia, Afghanistan, and Mexico City.

Cole is currently Virginia's secretary of public safety and homeland security, leading the state-level agency that consists of more than 19,000 employees.
