Former President Donald Trump leads potential challenger Ron DeSantis in a hypothetical primary matchup, while President Joe Biden is still underwater in a new poll by Quinnipiac University released on Thursday.

Republican and Republican-leaning voters supported Trump over DeSantis 42% to 36%, which is a pretty close margin considering that DeSantis isn't even officially in the race yet.

The only other candidate who has announced for 2024, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, was third but only got 5% in the poll.

Biden did not fare well in the poll, with 40% saying they approve of his job performance while 55% disapprove.

He is also underwater on a number of different policy areas and issues, including immigration (27%-62%), the economy (35%-59%), foreign policy (36%-55%), and his delay in shooting down the Chinese spy balloon (42%-49%).

Even Biden is not officially in the race but is making moves that seem to be leading in that direction and has said multiple times that he intends to run.
