Trump lawsuit against ABC, George Stephanopoulos to proceed

 July 27, 2024

While ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos was interviewing Rep. Nancy Mace earlier this year, he made the assertion that "a jury found Trump had 'raped' [E. Jean]Carroll."

There's only one problem with Stephanopoulos' claim.

A New York jury NEVER said that Donald Trump had done any such thing.

As a result of that tiny fact, Stephanopoulos probably shouldn't be running around flapping his gums and saying otherwise.

Perhaps he's going to learn that lesson that hard way, as Donald Trump's team is taking Stephanopoulos to court over the claim.

U.S. District Judge Cecilia Altonaga, who was appointed by George W. Bush, recently ruled that Trump's lawsuit against Stephanopoulos can go forward because the definition of "rape" is different enough from what the jury found Trump guilty of to warrant the case moving forward.

The judge wrote that the case could continue on account of "the jury’s verdict expressly finding Trump was not liable for rape," rejecting the defendants' request for dismissal.
