Trump impeachment expungement possibility has Nancy Pelosi fuming

 July 24, 2023

House Republicans are considering expunging former President Donald Trump's impeachments, and with that event potentially on the horizon, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is lashing out at Republicans for "playing politics."

The irony of such a statement is significant, considering that both impeachments against Trump were based on political games. Republicans argue they are right to expunge those impeachments as a means to correct the mistakes of the past.

During an interview with CNN's State of the Union, Pelosi said "Kevin [McCarthy] is playing politics. It's not even clear if he constitutionally can expunge those things. If he wants to put his members on the spot, his members in difficult races on the spot, that's a decision he has to make."

McCarthy on the other hand has already thrown his support behind the expungement movement, saying that Trump was impeached for "purely political reasons."

Trump was first impeached for a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Democrats accused Trump of corruption, when in reality, Trump was right over the target and was going to expose Democrat interests in Ukraine.

The former president's second impeachment came after the Jan. 6 unrest, when Democrats falsely accused Trump of encouraging violence. Now Republicans are setting the record straight, and Democrats aren't happy.
