Trump expected to pull troops from African nation after Biden sent them back
During Donald Trump's first presidency, he got American troops out of Somalia.
A lot of people feel that American troops being deployed to less places is great for our country.
Joe Biden was apparently not one of them. During Biden's administration, he reversed Trump's removal of forces and sent men back in.
Now, a former official in Donald Trump's first administration said that he believes that the incoming president will likely pull troops out of Somalia once again.
According to the Daily Caller, "J. Peter Pham, special envoy to Africa’s Sahel region during Trump’s first term, told Stars and Stripes that the president-elect will likely withdraw troops from the war-torn nation due to a lack of U.S. national security interest in the region."
Biden sent 500 service members back into Somalia after Trump had pulled them all out because he said he wanted a "persistent presence" in the region.
Pham continued, "I would expect that President Trump will want to reverse course and restore things to where he intended at the end of 2020. Quite frankly, as the corruption of even allegedly elite units like Danab has underscored, we do not have an effective partner in Mogadishu, and there are no U.S. national security interests that justify risking American treasure — much less American blood — in Somalia that cannot be handled offshore or from nearby bases."
