Former President Donald Trump said Monday during a Fox News interview that an audio recording that was used to indict him on charges he shared classified documents with unauthorized people has been mischaracterized.

“These were newspaper stories, magazine stories, and articles," he said about the items mentioned on the audiotape.

Despite saying on the recording that he couldn't declassify the items because he was no longer president, that "there was nothing to declassify."

“It wasn’t a document. I had lots of paper. I had copies of newspaper articles. I had copies of magazines," he claimed.

His comments don't make a whole lot of sense in context, but it may be an out for him legally if he can make it sound credible enough.

He also said during the interview that he didn’t have any Iran war plans, “that I know of. But everything was declassified.”
