Trump calls for Liz Cheney to be prosecuted and 'jailed'

 March 19, 2024

Many believe that the so-called "bipartisan" House Jan. 6 Committee was yet another attempt to hamstring former President Donald Trump's political future.

Given recent revelations of the committee allegedly withholding certain key pieces of evidence that would have been in Trump's favor, the former president doubled down over the weekend in calling for former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) to be prosecuted.

The Hill reported that Trump made his feelings clear on his Truth Social platform, calling for Cheney "to be prosecuted over allegations she and the other Jan. 6 committee members purposely withheld testimony and details from their investigation into the former president’s actions during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection."

The key subject revolves around the call for National Guard troops to have been deployed on Jan. 6.

The Hill noted:

Trump, on Truth Social on Sunday, posted an article former Trump administration aide Kash Patel published in The Federalist last week in which Patel claimed Cheney and the House Jan. 6 committee “suppressed evidence” about the former president’s authorization of National Guard troops during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection.

The former president, in his usual style, held nothing back as he called for Cheney to be prosecuted.

"SHE SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR WHAT SHE HAS DONE TO OUR COUNTRY! SHE ILLEGALLY DESTROYED THE EVIDENCE. UNREAL!!!" Trump wrote.

Trump also called for Cheney to be "jailed," which prompted a reply on social media from the former Wyoming lawmaker.

"Hi Donald: you know these are lies. You have had all the grand jury & J6 transcripts for many months. You’re trying to halt your 1/6 trial because your VP, WH counsel, WH aides, campaign & DOJ officials etc will testify against you. You’re afraid of the truth and you should be," Cheney wrote on X.

Social media users overwhelmingly sided with Trump, and ripped Cheney to shreds on her own X post.

"Liz Cheney is a traitor to America and needs to be tried for treason. We now know she hid documents from the public showing President Trump called for National Guard assistance on J6. It’ll soon be time for Cheney to be held legally accountable for her crimes against the U.S," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Liz, you are just an irrelevant lying traitor… but you know this already."

Only time will tell if Trump gets his wish regarding Cheney's legal future.
