Trump blasts last-minute Biden actions aimed at undermining new administration

 January 10, 2025

President Joe Biden will be out of office in just over a week, but that does not mean he has stopped trying to impose his unpopular agenda on the nation before he departs.

As such, according to The Hill, President-elect Donald Trump has expressed frustration with the last-minute actions being taken by the current administration -- particularly with regard to energy policy -- but also indicated his resolve to take corrective steps upon entering the Oval Office.

Trump blasts 11th-hour actions

During a post-election meeting at the White House, Biden vowed to do his part n making the presidential transition a smooth one, but according to the man who will soon take his place, that is not at all what has happened.

According to Trump, Biden has been engaged in course of action designed to undermine the new administration by implementing policies he knows are antithetical to the preferences of his successor, such as his recent order restricting offshore drilling on both coasts.

Taking to his Truth Social platform to publicly lament the situation, the incoming president said, “Biden is doing everything possible to make the TRANSITION as difficult [as] possible, from Lawfare such as never been seen before to costly and ridiculous Executive Orders on the Green New Scam and other money wasting Hoaxes.”

The Hill quoted a source close to the incoming president's circle as observing, “Trump's view is that we won and you should just lay down, surrender your arms.”

That same individual added, “The Bidens have decided that they're not going to turn the keys over, meaning around power and authority to exercise their decision-making until the actual [transition] of power. From Trump's point of view, any continued regulatory activity, decision-making that Biden does more complicated. But from the Biden perspective, they're just doing what they get to do is because they are still president.”

Critic weighs in

It is not just Trump and his allies who believe Biden is pushing the limits of propriety with his last-minute edicts, with Fox News contributor Liz Peek also offering her take on the situation.

In an op-ed on the president's recent actions, Peek declared, “President Joe Biden is spitting in the face of average Americans.”

She continued, “By honoring billionaire George Soros, putting 625 million acres in federal waters off limits for oil and gas exploration and commuting the sentences of reviled murderers, Biden is insulting the majority of the country who voted to elect Donald Trump.”

In Peek's estimation, “Americans voted for 'Drill, baby, drill,' energy independence and a revival of investment in our mammoth oil and gas reserves. They voted for tougher law enforcement, a secure border, and deportations of (especially) criminals and others in the U.S. illegally.”

Therefore, she adds, Republicans need to make Biden aware in no uncertain terms that if he continues down this road, “we will destroy the last remaining vestiges of your legacy. We are prepared to claim that you are not mentally fit, that you are not and have not been running the country” and express that “he will be called before Congress to testify about his lame-duck policies.”

What comes next?

Trump has pledged swift action aimed at reversing Biden's offshore drilling edict, telling radio host Hugh Hewitt, “I'll unban it immediately,” but it is unclear whether things are quite that simple.

The specific manner in which Biden implemented the ban -- doing so under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act -- means, according to a 2019 court ruling, that Trump will need congressional approval to overturn the prohibition, and precisely how long that may take to secure, only time will tell.
