Trump blasts Biden for pardoning Hunter Biden, calls Jan. 6 protestors political prisoners
President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, in his criminal cases as well as other, unnamed potential offenses has sparked outrage, especially from President-elect Donald Trump, who took the opportunity to spotlight the plight of conservatives facing political persecution for participating in the Jan. 6, 2021 unrest.
Biden previously promised that he would not pardon his son, saying, "No one is above the law," a comment often directed at Trump in the context of his criminal cases.
Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday night saying, "Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!"
In pardoning his son, Joe Biden issued a statement saying, "From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted... In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me – and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough."
Biden claims that his son was the target of a political witch-hunt, and that is why he deserved a pardon.
Trump had previously hinted that he might offer pardons to supporters who have been persecuted by Biden's DOJ. Now, this pardon of Hunter Biden will assuredly be cited in support of those plans when Trump is inaugurated as the 47th president in January.
