Trump administration eliminates top leader of al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria
U.S. Central Command confirmed on Saturday that it had successfully eliminated Muhammed Yusuf Ziya Talay, the senior military leader of the terrorist organization Hurras al-Din.
Hurras al-Din is an affiliate terrorist group of al-Qaeda based in Syria that was at the top of President Donald Trump's kill list.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that Trump had ordered restrictions on hitting overseas targets to be loosened, allowing CENTCOM to hit Talay and cut the head off of Hurras al-Din.
In an announcement confirming Talay's death, General Michael Erik Kurilla, U.S. Central Command, explained, "As we have said in the past, we will continue to relentlessly pursue these terrorists in order to defend our homeland, and U.S., allied, and partner personnel in the region."
Footage of the airstrike that killed Talay was posted to CENTCOM's social media pages not long after the announcement from General Kurilla went out.
Trump promised voters that he would move with aggression in combatting terrorist groups instead of allowing problems to fester as the previous administration did. Any major terrorist figure still out there would do well to go underground, which still may not be enough to save them.
