Trump 40 points ahead of DeSantis in poll taken just before Twitter launch

May 26, 2023

In a poll taken just before Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) announced his 2024 presidential candidacy, former President Donald Trump had a 40-point lead over him.

McLaughlin & Associates, a Trump pollster, reported that Trump had 56% support while DeSantis only had 16%.

Since January, Trump has gained 11% in the poll while Desantis has lost almost half of his support.

These numbers could shift now that DeSantis has officially entered the race. He raised $8.2 million in the first 24 hours after his launch, $2 million more than President Joe Biden and more than twice the $4 million Trump raised in the 24 hours after he was indicted last month.

Trump's legal troubles seem to have galvanized Republicans to support him in higher numbers, but DeSantis now has a chance to show that he can gain support.

He'd better do it quickly though, or he's going to lose his chance.
