Tim Walz' brother hints at VP hopeful's 'character' problems

 September 1, 2024

In just the few short weeks since he was named the Democratic Party's vice-presidential nominee, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has had no shortage of controversies with which to contend.

Now, in addition to accusations of stolen valor and an allegedly embellished political origin story, Walz is facing a blistering critique from within his own family, as his brother, Jeff Walz, hints that he is not the type of individual who should wield great power in the United States, as the New York Post explains.

Governor's brother holds forth

In a startling turn of events, Jeff Walz has come forth to warn the country about the man seeking to serve as Kamala Harris' vice president, suggesting that he ought not be trusted with such responsibility.

“I'm 100% opposed to all his ideology,” Jeff Walz said of his brother, who is reportedly contemplating an endorsement of former President Donald Trump's bid for another term in office.

Responding to an online poster who urged him to take the stage with Trump and let the nation know the precise concerns he has about his brother, Jeff Walz, who resides in Florida, said, “I've thought long and hard about doing something like that!”

“I'm torn between that and just keeping my family out of it,” he added.

Adding an ominous tone to the reply, Jeff Walz added of his brother, “The stories I could tell. Not the type of character you want making decisions about your future.”

Estrangement goes public

The Walz brothers, Tim and Jeff, have not spoken in eight years, and the estrangement led to Jeff's family receiving no advance word that Tim was poised to enter the national stage as Harris' running mate.

“My family wasn't given any notice that he was selected,” lamented Jeff Walz.

It was controversial journalists Laura Loomer who first brought the contentious relationship between the siblings to light after unearthing a 2023 Facebook post written by Jeff Walz blasting Trump's indictment in the New York hush money case.

At the time, Jeff Walz declared, “We've just become a third world banana republic,” indicating the depth of his disgust with the lawfare waged against the former president who is now battling against the ticket on which his brother's name prominently appears.

Conservatives offer support

As Newsweek notes, a number of conservative voices have come forth to draw attention to Jeff Walz's statements about his brother, with X user @CubanOnlyTrump writing, “Pray every day that your children will grow up to be like Jeff Walz and not communist Tim Walz.”

Social media poster Billy Williams said of Jeff Walz's take on his brother's qualifications for office, “This is very damaging stuff. Trump definitely needs to reach out to Jeff Walz. Any time a family member of a Republican doesn't support them it becomes a media sensation like with Mary Trump,” a reference to the former president's niece, who has not been shy about slamming her uncle in the press.

Loomer, for her part, has offered to host Jeff Walz on her online show, Loomer Unleashed, but whether he will accept that invitation and tell the country everything he knows about the man who could become vice president, only time will tell.
