New Broadway Star: Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson
Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson will make a guest appearance in the Broadway musical &Juliet, fulfilling a longtime aspiration to sing and act on Broadway.
The appearance is only for one night, Dec. 14, and she will also participate in a discussion with audience members after the show.
Jackson's role will be in the ensemble, but it was specifically created for her.
She wrote about her desire to appear on Broadway in her memoir, which apparently led to the offer of the role.
She joked about her application to Harvard, “I expressed that I wished to attend Harvard as I believed it might help me ‘to fulfill my fantasy of becoming the first Black [sic], female Supreme Court justice to appear on a Broadway stage.”
She is the first Supreme Court Justice to be in a Broadway musical; opera fan and late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg did get to appear in an opera while she was on the bench.
