Texas lawyer who slipped wife abortion-inducing drugs gets 6 months in prison

Texas lawyer Mason Herring was found guilty of giving his wife abortion-inducing drugs without her knowledge but was sentenced to just 180 days in prison and 10 years of probation.

Herring, who is the founder and managing partner of the Herring Law Firm, was charged with felony assault to induce abortion, and his wife filed for divorce after the charges were filed.

She told the court following the sentencing that, "I do not believe that 180 days is justice for attempting to kill your child seven separate times."

The aggrieved spouse also suggested that Herring's actions had severe consequences, as their third child, a 1-year-old girl, was born 10 weeks premature, has developmental delays, and has to attend therapy multiple times a week.

Mason Herring reportedly told his wife upon finding out that she was pregnant with their third child that their new daughter "would ruin his plans and make him look like a jerk," as he was already involved romantically with a coworker.

Herring's behavior was abhorrent, and it is highly likely that he severely harmed his own child. He should be in prison for years, not a half year.
