 January 10, 2025

United States Capitol Police have identified the man who was arrested on Jan. 8 for allegedly trying to light a car on fire while President-elect Donald Trump was paying his respects to former President Jimmy Carter.

At the time, Carter was lying in state at the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C.

Police announced on X on Jan. 9 that the suspect was Adrian J. Hinton, a 35-year-old man from Virginia.

He is facing charges of unlawful activities after putting a flaming bag on top of a car near the Grant Memorial at around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 8.

Fortunately for everyone's safety, the bag burned out without igniting anything else or causing any serious damage.

Capitol Police said that the bag "was packed with accelerants and Hinton's vehicle had been spray-painted."

Hinton's arrest represented just one of two threatening incidents to happen at the Capitol of late.

Police also apprehended Mel J. Horne, age 44, after he "allegedly arrived at the Capitol with an array of knives, including a machete that he tried to get through a security checkpoint with an X-ray machine at the Capitol Visitor Center."

It's a shame that people can't even behave themselves during a former president's arewell events.
