Supreme Court to hear emergency petition to prevent reinstatement of noncitizen voters in Virginia
The U.S. Supreme Court indicated Wednesday that it would hear an emergency challenge in Virginia to a ruling that would reinstate 1,600 potentially non-citizen voters that were previously removed from the voter rolls, and it quickly decided on the same day to allow the voters to be removed.
As of Wednesday, only six days remained until the election -- a very narrow time frame for action to take place.
Virginia under Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) filed the challenge after a lower court said the removal violated a 90-day quiet period when voters are not to be removed.
The Biden DOJ wanted the voters to stay on the rolls, of course.
The program under which the voters were removed only began in August, and compared the voter rolls to information from the Department of Motor Vehicles in which license-holders identified themselves as noncitizens.
All 26 Republican governors filed a joint amicus brief agreeing with Youngkin.
