Supreme Court to hear new challenge to Obamacare
Could it finally be time to get rid of a key part of Obamacare for good after more than a decade?
Conservatives are hoping so, as the U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Friday to hear a new challenge to the law that claims it is unconstitutional to require insurance companies to cover certain kinds of preventive care and treatments.
The dispute centers on a task force that decides which preventive treatments need to be covered and which don't.
Specifically at issue are the coverage of HIV drugs and contraception, including that which pro-life groups consider to constitute abortifacients.
Because members of the task force were not appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, the plaintiffs argue, it is unconstitutional.
Two lower courts agreed with the plaintiffs, but the Biden administration wanted the nation's high court to look at those decisions.
