Supreme Court Hears Arguments In Big Tech Case

February 23, 2023

The Supreme Court heard arguments on Feb. 21 in the "first case challenging critical protections for tech companies under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act."

An extremely simplified version of this story is that conservatives in America want to make sure that the companies in the big tech industry do not become so powerful that they are able to brainwash America by telling only one side of the story.

Many liberals do not want websites like Google and Facebook to have to answer to anyone, because they believe the people at the top of these companies will always be in bed with liberals.

Elon Musk should have proved that wouldn't always be the case.

Breitbart is reporting that during the case, "Justice Sonia Sotomayor raised the question of whether algorithms that are specifically written to discriminate should be beyond the protections of Section 230, due to its conflict with anti-discrimination statutes." She asked:

If you write an algorithm, that in its structure ensures the discrimination between people — a dating app, for example — and someone comes to you and says, I’m going to create an algorithm that inherently discriminates against people. It won’t match black people to white people, Asian people to Hispanics, it’s going to discriminate. You would say that internet provider is discriminating, correct?

Justice Clarence Thomas, for one, seemed to agree.
