Steve Bannon says Speaker Johnson must resign by new year
Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon has called on House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to resign by the new year, just ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration next month.
Bannon told Breitbart News that Johnson has failed Trump and must abdicate his position following his approval of a disastrous spending bill that included billions in corrupt spending for special interests.
According to Bannon, "Johnson should, right now, resign… Here is the bottom line, and Matt Boyle knows this better than anybody; he’s the single best reporter on Capitol Hill, and he has been for about 15 years; he knows right now is that there’s 10 to 15 to 20 guys who are hard nos on Johnson and are not going to be changed."
Bannon went on to blast Johnson for the spending bill he said catered to Democrat interests and was the opposite of what Trump promised Americans. The former Trump advisor continued, "Well, Johnson delivers 1,500 pages, had not told Vivek [Ramaswamy], had not told Elon [Musk], had not told the president, had not told anybody in the House."
He also brought up a pay raise for Congress and an Obamacare exemption for lawmakers, remarking, "Johnson screwed that up by including 1,500 pages and gave themselves a 35% pay raise, and got them off Obamacare, which is why the guy got shot in the back in New York City."
Bannon is a powerful figure in the MAGA world, and no doubt Trump is paying attention to all of this, and that could mean that Johnson's time in leadership is likely coming to an end soon.
