Steely Dan keyboardist Jim Beard dead At Age 63

 March 8, 2024

The music world has lost a legend.

Keyboardist Jim Beard has passed away at the age of 63, and the entertainment world is in mourning.

That's because Beard was one of the most respected names in the industry, sharing his career with some of the finest musicians to ever play a note.

Just this January, he shared the stage with the iconic Eagles. He was also part of the legendary band Steely Dan, which accompanied the Eagles on the tour.

Beard was playing with Steely Dan as recently as the band's Jan. 8 concert in Phoenix, Arizona.

It didn't take long for legends to post online about how much Beard meant to them:

"Jim Beard, RIP … Jim was the glue and such a great presence on so many projects," said drummer Peter Erskine. "I’m going to miss the man, his wit and his musical incisiveness. You made a difference, Jim."

"Thank you for everything Jim Beard," said saxophonist Ben Wendel. "You were a musical giant and inspiration to so many. I am incredibly grateful I had a chance to hang with you and get a little insight into your genius."
