South Korean legislature invalidates martial law as soldiers entered government HQ
As long as corrupt liberals are involved in America's government, we're probably never going to see society running as smoothly as we like.
However, the recent developments in other parts of the world are a decent reminder that even though flawed people have risen to the top of our system, things could always be worse.
Look at South Korea for example, a country that's currently in complete chaos.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol recently declared martial law, and South Korea's legislature had to act fast to invalidate the order.
Even as soldiers smashed through the windows of South Korea's parliamentary headquarters, the 190 lawmakers were able to unanimously vote at 1:01 a.m. local time to declare Yoon's order of martial law "null and void."
Members of the legislature obviously felt that Yoon Suk-yeol was overstepping his authority.
"If the President does not abide by the results of the motion passed at the National Assembly it is clear treason and an illegal act," legislator Cho Kuk said.
It was a race against time to reverse the martial law declaration before the lawmakers were physically prevented from doing so by armed soldiers. People in the building set up barricades to buy the lawmakers inside an extra fourteen minutes to commence the procedure.
Soldiers were breaking through the windows at 12:47 a.m. local time, just as lawmakers were starting to vote. By 1:01 a.m. local time, the vote was completed. The soldiers were reportedly gone by 1:30 a.m. local time.
Let's hope all citizens in South Korea remain safe during this period of unrest.
