A new study claims that three in four young people ages 12 to 21 now dislike their bodies because of social media attacks, trolling and bullying.

The study was released by stem4, a youth mental health charity, and the survey found that 18 to 21 year olds are even more likely to dislike their bodies, with eight in 10 saying so.

Half of the over 1,000 youth surveyed said they had been trolled or bullied about their appearance online.

“The findings of this survey are deeply worrying,” clinical psychologist, CEO, and founder of stem4 Dr. Nihara Krause said.

“We need to improve understanding of the potentially compelling impact of social media content, and the reinforcement created through algorithms, on young people’s engagement with apps and their consequent mental health,” Krause continued.

Many of the teens admitted that they spent too much time on social media, but still continued to keep the same habits.
