According to The Daily Wire, six officials in the Texas attorney general's office are taking a leave of absence to defend impeached Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Sources told the Daily Wire that the officials were offended by the way the impeachment was carried out and feel that defending Paxton is the best way they can use their time right now.

The officials are Judd Stone, Solicitor General; Chris Hilton, Division Chief, General Litigation Division; Joseph N. Mazzara, Assistant Solicitor General; Kateland Jackson, Assistant Solicitor General; Allison Collins, Senior Attorney; and Jordan Eskew, Executive Assistant.

The state House voted to impeach Paxton 121-23 over the weekend under the leadership of Speaker Dade Phelan, a fellow Republican whom former President Donald Trump called a RINO.

The trial is set to begin by August 28 at the latest, and Paxton said he intends to defend himself vigorously.

The articles of impeachment are a “political sham,” he said.
