Sergio Mendes dies at 83
Famed musician Sergio Mendes, the king of bossa nova, has passed away at age 83.
Mendes was born back in 1941 in Brazil, but he would achieve most of his success and fame in America, where he recorded his albums and most of his touring took place.
On Sept. 5, it was confirmed that Mendes had passed away as a result of complications from long COVID.
He was at a hospital in Los Angeles when he passed away.
Based simply on the longevity of Mendes' career, which began all the way back in 1961 with the release of Dance Moderno, this is a death that is going to hit a lot of fans very hard.
It's always tough to lose a legend, but it can be even more difficult when that legend seemed to have been around forever. Mendes never really went anywhere either. He stayed busy in his later years by collaborating with the Black Eyed Peas and writing for the hit animated film Rio.
Rest in peace, legend.
