Sen.-elect Adam Schiff resigning House seat early

 December 10, 2024

Steve Garvey played in Major League Baseball for 19 years, but the ten-time all-star was not able to see his success carry over to his 2024 Senate race against Democrat Adam Schiff.

According to Newsmax, "Schiff defeated former baseball star Steve Garvey by more than 17 points in November to win the Senate seat that first opened with the death of longtime Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Laphonza Butler was appointed to fill Feinstein's seat until November's special election, and Butler opted against running for reelection."

Schiff winning the Senate race meant that he would have to leave his seat in the House of Representatives, but he wasn't willing to wait.

The longtime congressman is resigning from the House of Representatives now so that he can be sworn in as California's junior senator.

The early move allows Schiff to build up seniority over four other Democrat rookies, according to the Washington Examiner.

With Schiff ending his 24-year tenure in the House and moving to the Senate, he will be a part of America's 119th Congress, which begins Jan. 3, 2025.
