Sen. Tim Scott Questions DOJ's Protection of Biden

 August 13, 2023

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) has expressed concerns over the Department of Justice's perceived protection of President Joe Biden and his family.

Scott voiced his disbelief in a recent interview with Breitbart News Saturday. He highlighted the Department of Justice's (DOJ) ongoing protection of President Biden and his family, while simultaneously targeting Biden's political adversaries.

Breitbart reported on Scott's reaction to the recent appointment of U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation. The senator described the move as "unbelievable."

DOJ's Role in Protecting the Biden Family

Scott emphasized his astonishment, stating, “The only word that comes to mind immediately is unbelievable. The Department of Justice continues to protect the Biden family and Democrats while they hunt their political opponents.” He further pointed out that David Weiss, who previously brokered a favorable deal for Hunter Biden, is now positioned as the independent special counsel.

“There’s nothing independent. There’s nothing special. This is, once again, the velvet glove treatment,” Scott said.

Weaponization of the Department of Justice

The lawmaker expressed further concerns over the DOJ's actions, suggesting that the agency has been targeting not only Trump but also parents attending school board meetings and pro-life activists.

He criticized the DOJ for weaponizing their power while shielding Democrats, particularly the Biden family.

Scott also highlighted the importance of impartiality in justice, stating, “I don’t understand what this administration does not understand about Lady Justice wearing a blindfold.”

Future Proceedings and Investigations

According to Scott, the recent actions by Attorney General Merrick Garland and the DOJ aim to shield both the department and the Biden family from future legal proceedings. However, he expressed optimism about the Republican majority in the House, which has brought more transparency than seen in the previous four years.

“That is great news for the American people, who want to have confidence in the institutions of power this country. Well, they cannot, under President Biden. He has left the American people wanting, and that is something that we have to make up,” Scott said.

Commitment to Accountability and Justice

Scott emphasized the need for accountability and justice. He praised House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) for his ongoing investigation and assured that if he becomes president, he will ensure justice and restore confidence in the DOJ.

"When President Scott takes office, we will not only finish these investigations, we will bring about accountability and justice. We will restore confidence and integrity in the Department of Justice for the American people,” Scott stated.
