Russian authorities confirm Wagner Group leader Prigozhin died in plane crash via 'genetic testing'

August 31, 2023

It was reported last week that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Russian oligarch who owned the infamous Wagner Group of mercenary fighters, had died in a plane crash.

Now it has been asserted by the Investigative Committee of Russia that Prigozhin's death has been confirmed by way of "genetic testing" of human remains recovered from the crash site.

Per the Russian agency, "molecular genetic examinations have been completed" and provided positive identifications for all 10 individuals who were reported to have been on the plane during the ill-fated flight.

That includes Prigozhin and several other top Wagner Group leaders, plus the crew of the aircraft, according to the plane's passenger list as reported by Russia's civil aviation authorities.

Prigozhin, of course, had just two months prior led an aborted march toward Moscow with his heavily armed troops in a direct challenge against the authority of Russian military generals and even Russian President Vladimir Putin himself.

The big question now is, did Prigozhin's plane crash for normal reasons, or was it brought down purposefully in retaliation for the brief uprising he led?
