Ron DeSantis 'war on woke' fizzles out with Florida legislature

 March 10, 2024

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has fallen on hard times, and following his exit from the presidential race, he has come back to a state that has moved on from his "war on woke," and many of his proposals have languished and died.

Florida's legislature ended its session on Friday, and with that, many of DeSantis's culture war battles were also ended.

Measures ranged from a bill banning rainbow flags from government-owned buildings to preventing the removal of Confederate monuments.

While these bills could be reintroduced in the next session, for now, it signals that DeSantis has a mess to clean up. His presidential campaign cost him valuable time and money and, most importantly, his energy in pushing his agenda.

DeSantis made himself into a national figure by taking his war to the woke left, and he was winning. But that ended with his presidential campaign, which took his attention off intense legal battles and onto the campaign trail where he failed by many metrics.

The governor needs to get his administration back together and focus on winning important battles that will set him up for the future. 2024 wasn't his year, but he can change that for 2028.
