Ron DeSantis is open to pardoning Donald Trump and Jan. 6th protestors if elected president

 May 29, 2023

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis revealed during an interview with the The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show on Thursday that he would be open to pardoning former president Donald Trump and his supporters who were caught up in the Jan. 6th protest.

During the interview, Travis asked DeSantis, "Do you think the January 6 defendants deserve to have their cases examined by a Republican president? And if Trump, let’s say, gets charged with federal offenses and you are the President of the United States, would you look at potentially pardoning Trump himself based on the evidence that might emerge of those charges?"

DeSantis responded by saying, "The DOJ and FBI have been weaponized. We see that. We see it in a variety of contexts, some of which you mentioned. Some of it is the FBI going after parents going to school board meetings. Some of it’s how they treat a pro-life demonstrator, how they don’t go after people that are attacking pro-lifers."

The is no question that Trump protestors who were peacefully protesting at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021, were politically targeted. For DeSantis to come out on their side is huge and signals that DeSantis is fully committed to fighting the corrupt justice system.

DeSantis continued by saying, "And so what I’m going to do is — I’m going to do on day one — I will have folks that will get together and look at all these cases, who are people who are victims of weaponization or political targeting, and we will be aggressive at issuing pardons. Now, some of these cases, some people may have a technical violation of the law."

The Department of Justice, which is a completely partisan entity at this point, has thrown the book at innocent protestors, and we should all be ashamed that such political persecution has been permitted.
